Over the rail with Alex Baker
1st May
Here’s a couple of my favourite images from a recent shoot with Alex Baker for Cheapskates Skate Skool’s Brofile feature. By the way, this was Alex’s first ollie over a rail. Check here to see the rest of the images plus a nice little sequence.
Photos from the Hornby Skate Jam
5th March
Here in Christchurch there’s a growing, vibrant skate scene. One of the key players in getting young skater involved are the Cheapskates Skate Skool. They organise and put on regular competitions and jams throughout the city and Canterbury region. I headed over to Hornby for one of their events recently to capture some of the action. Here’s a few of my faves…

2011 Canterbury Skate Regionals
7th October
Cade Wilson-Russ » Noseblunt
An awesome display of young skaters where hucking things up down at the Regionals last weekend. Seriously I think this is the largest volume of entrants in the 13 and under I’ve seen, and the majority of them skated mind-blowingly well.
Read on to see a few pics from the day. To see even more head over to the Skate Skool News Page.
Jellie Park Skate Jam Photos

Brad Christensen » Kickflip to flat
I shot down to the Cheapskates Skate Skool Jellie Park Jam on the weekend to cover the event. This little start-up initiative is really starting to thrive, competitors and supporters alike are definitely getting stronger in numbers as these events roll on. And why wouldn’t they—sun, skateboarding & free BBQ is pretty much all you need for a good day out.
Above is a shot of ABC’s Brad Christensen kickflipping down to the flat. See the rest of the photos & results here»

2009 Cheapskates Canterbury Regionals
15th October
During the past few months I’ve been in hibernating, nursing my dislocated knee and not skating or snowboarding which just plain sucks. This in turn has kept me nicely out of the loop with the local skate scene.
Nice for a break away from the camera, but even nicer to be back!
It was a pleasure to be asked to photograph the 2009 Cheapskates Regionals at Washington Park on the Sunday 11th Oct. After a rain day on Saturday, it was clearly a good call to hold out till Sunday; the sun was cranking and skies were clear as.
Cheapskates Poster Shoot
25th September
Jack Dargan, Switch Heelflip
As summer rolls back round again, the weather begins to warm up and all the skaters in hibernation come out from hiding. The time for the Christchurch Cheapskates Regionals has come around again and I was asked kindly by Cheapskates to snap a poster shot. Last year’s poster boy was Lindsay Bae (featured in my previous post), but this year we lined up a fresh young individual—Jack Dargan.
