One of the most fun photo shoots I offer are surprise proposals. The emotions are raw and real. And just like a wedding or elopement, it’s a once in a lifetime moment. Paul contacted me shortly after booking a ‘scenic flight’ with Wanaka Helicopters, hatching a plan for his Roys Peak surprise proposal overlooking Lake Wānaka. The crew were all on board, running everything like a tourism experience and me simply being another passenger on the flight. We set up on the hero spot, quietly collecting frames along the way, before capturing the moment set against an epic landscape. With champagne and a platter tucked away in the back of the helicopter, the newly engaged Paul & Michelle could relax and soak it all in.
