With over 18 years of experience, I offer epic surprise proposal photography in New Zealand. I can guide you on pulling off this special occasion. I’ll work with you to plan everything down to time, the best location, and I’ll even share some pointers so we can get the best photos possible. I’m based in Wanaka, but capture love stories across Queenstown, Tekapo, Mt Cook and beyond.

Your way.
Choose from a full surprise proposal by having me hiding in plain sight as another traveller with a camera, or we can plan it as part of an adventure session together. I’ll always suggest what ever feels natural for you to do as a couple. If a couples photo shoot isn’t something you would normally do together, then a surprise proposal might be the right path.
Surprise proposal
People always wonder if I’m going to be hiding in the bushes in a ghillie suit with a big telephoto lens 😂. Nope! I’ll be right there in plain sight. We choose a location that someone with a camera taking photos of the landscape would be totally normal. You can ask me to take a photo of you in your phone, that’ll be your cue, I’ll be ready to capture your moment.
Adventure session
If you prefer, you can book me as part of an adventure session (couples photo shoot) together. Then at the right time during the session, you’ll propose and I’ll be right there. This is the best option if capturing facial expressions is important as we have a lot more control over how you’ll be positioned and how close I can to you.

Planning & guidance
When planning your surprise proposal, there are a lot of unknowns; locations, ways it can happen, and add to that you’ve likely never done this before. I’ll work with you and guide you. From your location to suggestions on timing and how we can approach it all. Let’s make your vision come to life.
Photography
I’ll capture the landscape, the mood, the details, and of course a sequence of all of the emotional layers of your proposal. Once you’ve both taken it all in, we’ll also do a short location session together while we’re there with some more setup and direction. The session will be a total of about an hour.
Sneak Peeks
This is a milestone worth announcing, so I’ll send over a selection of sneak peeks and your behind the scenes video within 2 days after your proposal. The full gallery will then be available with curated, edited high res images in the following weeks.
BTS video
With my action camera stealthily set up on top of my main camera, I can roll a behind the scenes video of your moment as well. Perfect for a reel or simply watching how it all unfolded.

With hybrid video
Optionally, we can offer hybrid photo + video to create a highlight film of your Surprise proposal. This is Andy shooting both photos and video clips throughout your session, delivering everything your moments in motion, curated and edited to licensed music.
